Investigators said a 2018 Dodge SUV, driven by a 40-year-old man from Killeen, failed to slow down in time and struck the rear of a stationary 2023 Chevrolet SUV in the line of traffic. The impact set off a chain-reaction crash involving three additional vehicles, resulting in a five-vehicle collision.
Amelia Reyes Mendoza, the driver of the Chevrolet SUV, was among five individuals transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with injuries ranging from non-incapacitating to severe. Despite medical efforts, DPS confirmed that she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Authorities have notified her next of kin.
