Brett Dixon, Melissa Cochran Dixon and Paul Dixon Found Dead: Three Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Elizabeth, Indiana Home

Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating a heartbreaking incident after three individuals were found dead inside and outside a residence Wednesday evening in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. to a home on Greenbrier Road SE following a welfare check request involving a reportedly suicidal individual. The request had reportedly been made by a concerned family member.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered 36-year-old Brett Dixon deceased on the front porch with gunshot wounds. Inside the residence, investigators located 59-year-old Melissa Cochran Dixon and 61-year-old Paul Dixon, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities stated that Paul Dixon appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Based on preliminary evidence gathered at the scene, investigators believe Paul Dixon fatally shot both Melissa Cochran Dixon and Brett Dixon before taking his own life. Officials emphasized that there is no continuing threat to the public as the investigation remains ongoing.

Sheriff Nick Smith described the incident as a devastating tragedy and extended condolences to the family members, friends, and loved ones affected by the loss. Authorities confirmed that autopsies have been scheduled for all three individuals as detectives continue examining the circumstances surrounding the case.

The tragedy has deeply shaken residents throughout Elizabeth and the surrounding community, where many are struggling to process the sudden loss of three lives in such painful circumstances. Investigators have not yet publicly released additional details regarding the relationships among the individuals involved or what may have led to the deadly incident.
