A 34-year-old Edinburg woman, identified as Marlene Vidal, has been arrested and charged with capital murder following a deeply disturbing incident in San Antonio that left two young children dead inside a burning vehicle early Friday morning, according to police officials.
San Antonio Assistant Police Chief Jesus Salame Jr. said officers and firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Richland Hills Drive between approximately 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. after reports of a vehicle fire behind a warehouse. When emergency crews arrived, they worked quickly to extinguish the flames. During the response, they made the tragic discovery of two children inside the burned vehicle.
Authorities stated the children are believed to be approximately 5 and 7 years old. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed, pending identification by the medical examiner and notification of family members.
